Considering Visiting Vernal Presbyterian Church?
We'd love for you and your family to be our guests. Here's what you can expect when you visit.
What Our Services Are Like
Our Services
Presbyterian worship is regulated by what God commands in Scripture. Our worship services include prayer, Scripture reading, preaching, and hymns and psalms. We also regularly enjoy the Lord's Supper together. We are led by a choir accompanied by piano and organ. If you've been around other traditional Protestant churches before, our services will feel very familiar.
For Your Children
Children & Nursery
On Sunday mornings, we have several Sunday school classes for children. If you're unsure of which class to send your kids to, one of the Sunday school teachers can give you guidance.
During worship, children join us for the duration of the service. We believe that children of Christian households are a part of the covenant family of God and benefit from the same means of grace offered to adults. Our congregation has children of all ages, and we have a very high tolerance for noise. However, we understand if you need to take your child out of worship for a few minutes. If you need any advice on handling children in worship, we recommend this article. And don't be afraid to ask your neighbor on the pew for help!
About Our Church
Who We Are
We are evangelical. We believe that all people are sinners in need of salvation through Jesus Christ. Salvation is offered through the proclamation of God's inerrant Scriptures.
We are Presbyterian. Our congregation is led by elders who are in fellowship with elders from other Presbyterian congregations. We are a part of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
We are covenantal. Children are included in church membership and are baptized on the basis of the faith of their parents. In baptism, the gospel is offered to infants, and our prayer is that as they grow they will take hold of the gospel promises of baptism by faith.
We are Calvinistic. We hold to what some have called the "Five Points" of Calvinism or TULIP. More commonly, we refer to these points as the "doctrines of grace."
We are confessional. All of our elders are bound by the Westminster Confession of Faith. We believe this Confession is a faithful summary of the Scripture's teaching. We share this Confession in common with most other conservative Presbyterian churches around the world. This ensures that doctrine is faithfully preserved in our churches.
For a fuller explanation of our beliefs, see our What We Believe page and associated documents. We recommend starting with the Shorter Catechism after reviewing our Essentials.
